As part of our service we will supply you with a PDF proof for every piece of artwork. The proof acts as a guide to show how the finished print will look, and should only be used to check that everything is in the correct position and no items are missing. To aid with this the PDF proof includes cyan guidelines that indicate where the document will be trimmed, creased or folded. The solid lines indicate trimming and the dashed lines indicate creasing or folding. These guidelines will not be printed on your final job. Please note that the PDF proof cannot be relied upon as an accurate indicator of colour. For colour proofing a printed proof is highly recommended.
With regards to copy please ensure all spelling is correct. The onus is on you to check your proof – after all you know your material better than us! It is also worth double-checking all contact information if appropriate.
If any elements in the design touch the edge of the page, they must then be extended 3mm past the cyan trim line to create what is known as bleed. The bleed allows for any small variations when we trim your document.
The easiest way to check the image resolution of your PDF proof is to open it in Adobe Reader and go to View > Zoom > Actual Size. If any part of the image looks obviously blocky or pixellated then the image resolution is too low to print (If you need to download a copy of the free Adobe Reader software please visit https://get.adobe.com/reader/ and follow the instructions).
Positioning of Design Elements
It’s a good idea to leave at least 4mm of empty space inside the trimmed edge before placing any copy or important design elements. This creates a more professional look to your document and it prevents the feeling that objects are falling off the page.
We recommend a printed proof for all folder jobs. This is particularly important if accurate colour matching is important to you, because a monitor or office printer cannot accurately represent the colour of the finished printed document. This will increase delivery of the finished print by up to 3 days, but it may well be worth it to ensure the best possible result first time round.
